Pattaya Dragon to feature first cool pub on Soi 2

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

The Pattaya Dragon will be located on a 23-rai site on Second Road in the city resort and is expected to attract both foreigners and locals. The project will consist of three zones – Moonlight, Ice Bar and Slim Pattaya.

Moonlight will be an outdoor area designed for staging events, including concerts and competitions. It will accommodate up to 10,000 people.

According to the press statement The Ice Bar will be the first cool pub in Thailand, with different temperatures in four areas. It will hold up to 600 people. But Bangkok already has this cool room in Titanium Bangkok.

And Slim Pattaya will be a pub with four areas – a slim zone focusing on young people, a fashion zone aimed at drawing a business crowd, a cigar zone for smokers and a terrace and bar for dining.

They said the goal was to build a new tourist attraction in Pattaya that was different from all the others. Hops that the new airport will bring new customers to the area are in there calculations. Tour operators are being approached to include Pattaya Dragon in their itineraries.

Young dancing girls coyote dancers a dilemma for Culture

Wednesday, November 1st, 2006

A proposed from Culture Minister Khunying Khaisri Sriaroon regulation to ban women aged younger than 20 working as so-called “coyote dancers” is attracting fire for alleged violation of workers’ rights.

The move came after Her Majesty the Queen recently expressed concern at television coverage of young women dancing at a Buddhist charity event at Nong Khai.

Labour Protection and Welfare Department chief Padungsak Thephasdin na Ayutthaya said prohibiting under-20s from working as dancers was against labour rights. He said women aged around 20 were mature and had a right to work where and at what they wished.

The law already provides regulations restricting young people from certain work – in the sex trade for example. (Its never been strictly enforced its still there.)

Education Minister Wijit Srisaan warned the Culture Ministry to proceed with caution. He thinks that if anyone dances in public in a lewd manner it would be inappropriate regardless of age (ohh good help us)

The best comment came from Interior Ministry permanent secretary Pongpayom Wasaputi he has informed provincial governors of Her Majesty’s concerns and sought their help in preventing future inappropriate performances, especially at Buddhist sites and public events.

In our opinion sexy dancing, alcohol or any drugs or party should not be held in any temple what so ever. But in Thai tradition the temple is a gathering places for festivals but after Her Majesty the Queen remarks, hopefully this will end soon.
